Memjet OEM Partners to Showcase Solutions That Support Key Trends in Packaging
PACK EXPO International is the leading event for the packaging industry, bringing industry leaders together to discuss the trends and ideas dominating the packaging market today. Memjet OEM partners will be exhibiting at the conference, showcasing a wide range of label and packaging solutions that enable printers and manufacturers to capture new opportunities in this rapidly changing market.
Kevin Shimamoto, general manager of the Wide Format and Packaging Business Unit at Memjet, notes, “There was a time when the goal of packaging was to safely hold the product inside. But not anymore. Today’s packaging must also act as a personalized communication channel between the brand and the consumer, playing a key role in getting—and keeping—satisfied customers. At PACK EXPO, Memjet’s OEM partners will be showcasing single pass inkjet solutions that let printers and manufacturers succeed in this new printing paradigm by giving them the resources they need to easily and economically produce highly customized packaging and related materials in run lengths from one to thousands.”
Enabling the New Packaging Opportunity
In packaging today, “consumers are the customer.” That was the conclusion of research done by the Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies (PPMI) in advance of PACK EXPO. The report notes that consumers are no longer responding to a “one size fits all” message in the products they consume. Consumers now get to choose what is right for them, from product creation to how products are received.
To meet the challenges that come from this new packaging paradigm, Memjet OEM partners have produced a range of packaging solutions that help manufacturers manage the trend of “consumer as customer.” These single-pass, color inkjet solutions produce customized packaging faster and more efficiently than traditional packaging solutions at less cost.
For example, the Xante Excelagraphix 4800 is a Memjet powered inkjet packaging solution that enables manufacturers to produce short-run, customized, digital packaging with low capital expense. Manufacturers can use the Xante Excelagraphix 4800 to integrate packaging into their manufacturing process and print everything—order information, SKUs, product instructions, personalized customer messages, and images—directly onto the box.
Putting this capability in the hands of the manufacturer saves money on expensive outsourcing options, inventory warehousing, and scrap while saving time over the manual process of printing and applying labels. Moreover, the manufacturer can better respond to customer-driven opportunities for its products and its packaging.
These inkjet-powered solutions are also opening up new opportunities for commercial printers and packaging providers, giving them a cost effective way to accept the short-run jobs that are part of this new packaging paradigm.
For example, the Memjet-powered TrojanThree is an affordable, all-in-one solution that enables print service providers and packaging providers to print short-run jobs on a variety of substrates, including corrugated board, paper bags, envelopes and direct mail, bubble wrap, wood, and press board. These items can be targeted by region or personalized to the recipient, opening up new lines of business for the provider without requiring them to make a significant capital investment.
